Questions New Learners Ask
While the UK average is 45 hours of professional tuition, our structured 2026 syllabus aims to get you "Test-Ready" as efficiently as possible, typically saving students 5–10 hours of unnecessary training.
We offer both. Automatic is increasingly popular for navigating Hounslow’s stop-start traffic, while Manual remains the "Gold Standard" for those wanting total vehicle control.
Most of our students use Isleworth (Fleming Way), Slough (Bath Road), or Southall/Greenford. We ensure you are comfortable with the specific "trap" junctions at all three.
Preparation is the first step toward a first-time pass. At Drivetime School of Motoring (Est. 1987), we’ve helped thousands of students in Hounslow, Maidenhead, and across West London start their journey with confidence. Whether you are learning in a Manual or Automatic car, here is how to get ready for your introductory session:
1. Bring Your Provisional License
This is a legal requirement. Your instructor must check your photocard license before you can get behind the wheel. Please have this ready at the start of your first 1:1 session.
2. Check Your Vision
You must be able to read a standard UK number plate from a distance of 20 metres. If you require glasses or contact lenses for distance, please ensure you are wearing them.
3. Wear Suitable Footwear
For the best "pedal feel" and safety, we recommend flat shoes with thin soles (like trainers). Avoid heavy boots, high heels, or flip-flops, as these can make clutch control and braking more difficult for beginners.
4. Be Rested and Ready
Driving requires 100% concentration. Ensure you are well-hydrated and have had a good night’s sleep. Our instructors provide a calm, patient environment, especially for nervous novices in the Heston, Osterley, and Cranford areas.
5. Review the Highway Code
While not mandatory for your first lesson, having a basic understanding of road signs will give you a head start. At Drivetime, we integrate Theory and Practical learning simultaneously to help you progress faster toward your test at Isleworth or Slough.
